Oscar Schindler

Oscar Schindler is remembered as a man who saved hundreds of Jews from the death camps of Nazi Germany. By employing them in his factory that produced German gun shells that always failed, Schindler saved approximately 1200 Jews from death. He also smuggled food, medicine, and travel passes to the Jews.

Born a Catholic, Schindler held strong to his convictions about the treatment of his fellow man, unable to watch the Nazi horror without actively opposing it. He was disliked by post-war Germans , but was welcome in the home of any of “his Jews”.

"I hated the brutality, the sadism, and the insanity of Nazism. I just couldn't stand by and see people destroyed. I did what I could, what I had to do, what my conscience told me I must do. That's all there is to it. Really, nothing more.”
