The
Providence Forum Logo uses symbols intimately connected with America's
earliest beginnings, and serves as a reminder of the deep faith imbedded
in our nation's founding principles. |

From
its beginning, America knew it would have no king, because America
knew that her king transcended human authority. The Declaration of
Independence appealed to "the Supreme Judge of the world"
and confessed "a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence".
Submitting to the Heavenly King, precluded submission to an earthly
one. Thus the great patriotic song "My Country 'Tis of Thee"
concludes: "Protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King!" |

This
historic Christian symbol of the Holy Trinity reflects God's superintending
care over the formation of our great nation. The peace treaty signed
with Great Britain, which ended the Revolutionary War in 1783, began,
"In the name of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity". The Continental
Congress said, the Ëeye of Providence encased in the triangle,
found on the Great Seal of the United States, represents God's special
protection of our nation. In Christian symbolism the eye in the triangle
represents God the Father, the first person of the Trinity, and Sovereign
Agent of Divine Providence |

The
shield, as borne on the breast of the American Eagle on the Great
Seal, denotes that the United States "ought to rely on their virtue
alone". The colors, as defined by the Continental Congress, reinforce
this message: "white signifying purity and innocence; red, hardiness
and valour; and blue, vigilance, perseverance and justice". Our virtue
has always been our greatest defense, for as Alexis DeToqueville said,
"America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases
to be good, America will cease to be great." |
